Access Statement for the White Horse


Introduction
We aim to cater for the needs of all who visit The White Horse.  We are committed to assist guests with physical or mobility problems ensuring everything is done in our power for guests to have a comfotable and enjoyable stay.
The separate newly built Lodge accommodation at the rear of the pub offers two family rooms,
five doubles, and two twins.

The family rooms consist of two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed the other with two single beds all within the same suite.  All are very spacious, as are the en-suite facilities. 
 
Pre - Arrival 
  • we are located on the A1017 in the quiet village of Ridgewell between Haverhill and Halstead
  • the neareset village shop and post office is a 5 minute drive away in the village of Great Yeldham.

Arrival & Car parking facilities
  • there is a large off road gravel carpark which may not be suitable for some wheel chairs.
  • the court yard accommodation has paving around the rooms, accessed by a paved wheel chair ramp


Main Public House Building

Entrance to the main bar is wide enough to accomodate most wheel chairs. The main bar is spacious and one should be able to move fairly freely around in a wheel chair without too much difficulty.  All furniture can easily be rearranged.

Public WCs
Gents
The access to the gents toilet may be difficult for some wheel chair users as there is a step (approx 4 inches) upon entry to the main toilet area. There is one standard height wc (16" from the ground) and three urinals which are 26" from the ground. Also there are two hand basins again standard height (approx 31") from the ground. Hand drying is via paper towel dispenser located 56" from the ground.
 
Ladies
Acccess to the ladies toilet is wheel chair friendly from the bar entrance. There is a small slope inwards making this a relativly easy manouver. Once in there, one will find two wash hand basins (approx 31")from the floor. The wc's are standard height (16") and one cubicle has two grab rails and the door opens outwards, thus making wheel chair access easy. Hand drying is via paper towel dispensers located approx 42" from the floor.

Restaurant

The restaurant is a separate room either accessed from the main bar (low threshold bar less than 1" high) or from the patio at the rear of the pub (small step down approx 2"). Once inside there is plenty of room for manouver.  The furniture is all pine and the chairs are armless and can easily be rearranged.  There is a large paved patio for alfresco dining.

Bedrooms
As a new build all rooms are fitted out to disabled regulations.

  • there is oil fired central heating in all rooms which can be controled by thermostic valves     on radiators.

  • bedrooms are laid to carpet and have wall lights. 
  • tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, tv with dvd player and an electric fan.
  • free standing wardrobe, 2 chairs or a sofa, bedside cabinet with lamps, dressing table.
  • all light switches and plug sockets are accessable by wheel chair users.

Bathrooms

All rooms

  • ensuite facilites including power shower, toilet, hand basin, mirror, shaver point and heated towel rail.
  • floors are laid to non slip safety flooring. Threre is a small step into the shower cubicle
    approx 6".
  • well lit and ventelated
  • there is an adjustable shower stool or chair available.

  • evacuation procedures are provided in all rooms

  • mobile phone reception is generally good
  • most forgotten items e.g. toothbrush, comb etc can be purchased from reception
